Studies on the Morphological Characteristics , Bulblet Dormancy , and Growth Retardants Effected on Lilium lancifolium Thunb

Lee Chung-Sik
Abstract
The studies on Lilium lancifolium Thunb, a native plant in Korea, presented here included discription of morphological characteristics, response to cool temperature treatment of dormant bulblet, and effect of growth retardants on plant growth and flowering.
The results summarized as follows;
1. One plant produces about 64 bulblets having an average of 3.5 scales and 0.4g each. The average diameter and volume were 0.8§¯ and 0.73§¢ respectively.
2. The flowering date of ninth floret was 4th august in 1977, the height was 148§¯; the strobilus length, 44.2§¯,; the number of florets, 27: and the flower diameter, 8.8§¯.
3. Each strobilus has about twenty six florets, but the first three flower branches had one to three flowers each, the next six branches had one or two flowers and the next group of branches had one flower or less
1. The optimum treatment for breaking dormancy was 10¡É for 41 days
2. The bulblet planted on August and September 1975 bloomed in July 1977, nearly two years after planting. Although differences were small, the best quality flowers were produced by cold treatment at 10¡É for 41 days.
3. Early planting in 1975 resulted slightly large bulbs in 1977, circumference and weight measurements.
1. The Ancymidol treatments produced the most desirable plant by reducing plant height by 31 percent and strobilus length by 34 percent.
2. Ancymidol treatment did not significantly reduce flower size or number of florets and portion of plants flowering were higher than other treatments.
